In 1986 Nike released the Air Max 1 with a larger visible window but quickly found out it led to the midsole cracking in cold weather. Fast forward to 1987 and the game changing Air Max 1 was redesigned with a smaller window and became the shoe we all know and love now.

Nike eventually figured it out and re-released the Air Max 1 with the larger window and in preparation of Air Max Day 2024 we're getting an OG Air Max 1 colorway with 1986 tooling. The beef and broccoli dish has been the inspiration for sneakers in the past, and this time it finds its way onto the Air Max 1. The Air Max 1 'Beef and Broccoli' is releasing in Spring 2024 in the United States with currently an unknown release date.

The Nike Air Max 1 'Urawa' 2023 is a sequel to the 2004 Japanese exclusive Air Max 1 Urawa, paying tribute to the Urawa Dragons (aka Red Diamonds) that plays in Japan's professional soccer league - J1League. The Air Max 1 '86 Big Bubble World Make 'Korea' is releasing in the United States for $170 on September 22. The World Make series is dedicated to major fashion cities and lately, the influence of South Korea in sneaker culture and streetwear culture has been undeniable. Only 1986 pairs of the Air Max 1 x Kids of Immigrants 'Light Armory Blue' was released and I'm lucky enough to get my hands on a pair. This shoe is an '86 big bubble version of the Air Max 1 which uses the larger Nike Air unit that was on the original Air Max 1 shoe before it was retooled to use the visible Nike Air unit that we're all familiar with now. The Kids of Immigrants collection came with four colorways of the Air Max 1 '86, and this colorway was definitely my favorite out of the four. In 2021 Nike held a bracket tournament on SNKRS that put 16 CO.JP sneakers against each other, with one shoe left as the winner. The Air Max 1 'Head to Head' is the inspired by the top 8 contenders of that tournament. Dressed in Michigan colors, this shoe also features crocodile and snakeskin texture which comes from the Un-Tiffany Dunks and Air Force 1 Snakeskin Cocoa respectively.

The Air Max 1 Puerto Rico 'Blue Gale' is one of two Air Max 1s that was released on June 6 for $140 ahead of Puerto Rico Day. Unlike the 'Orange Frost' colorway, this shoe never released on Nike.com or SNKRS and was only available at select Nike neighborhood stores.

Inspired by 'piragua', a Puerto Rican ice dessert, the storytelling on this shoe is outstanding. From the shoe itself all the way to the box, there are so many details on this shoe that I love. The Air Max 1 'Mica Green' released on April 14 for $150 in the United States and it is as simple of a shoe as you can get. This shoe is the definition of when keeping it simple can speak volumes, featuring a mesh nylon base layer with leather and suede overlays, there's little to no hype behind this shoe but it's one of my favorite recent pickups.

The Air Max 1 '86 Big Bubble released on Air Max Day, March 26 2023 for $150. This shoe was the first iteration of the iconic Air Max 1 and features a larger Air unit than the shoe we all know and love now.

The Air Max 1 Corduroy 'Baltic Blue' released in the United States for $160 on March 17. Despite never loving corduroy sneakers I decided to give this shoe a chance. Objectively, this is a nice shoe with good materials and attempts something different. Subjectively, this shoe isn't for me.

The Air Max 1 'Shima Shima' released on March 10 for $160 and it adds to the Shima Shima pack that first dropped in 2003. When images of these shoes came out, I really thought they'd quickly sell out but I was wrong.
