The Jordan Air Ship PE 'Every Game' Dune Red Is Exceptional. In Depth Review and On Feet!
The Jordan Air Ship PE 'Every Game' Dune Red released on May 10 for $140 in the United States. In addition to the Air Ship having an interesting story that Nike ignored for three decades, this particular colorway is a shoe from a pack of two that draws inspiration from one of Michael Jordan's superstitions. Colorway (4/5):
In terms of colorway this shoe is pretty hard to beat. A summit white base layer with red overlays and a sail midsole (one of the rare times I really think a sail midsole works better than white), this colorway is exceptional. My favorite aspect about this shoe is the outsole that comes with a pre-aged aesthetic, a very distinct and unique look.
The most distinct feature about this shoe is of course the ‘Every Game’ that is stitched on the heel of the shoe. I’m not sure if I like ‘Every Game’ on both shoes, if they had ‘Every’ on one shoe and ‘Game’ on the other I feel like that would make more sense, however, I’m not a designer and have the creativity of a brick.
Materials (4/5):
The base layer is suede and this is very nice suede. It’s not that hairy suede you see on shoes like the Jordan 5 ‘Craft’ and a smoother suede is something I prefer. The red leather overlays comes with a cracked aesthetic that further plays into the ‘pre-aged’ theme.
The Air Ship comes with a rubber cupsole with a polyurethane encapsulated Nike Air unit in the heel, just like it’s spiritual successor the Air Jordan 1. This shoe also comes with a booklet that explains the sole and cushioning in detail if you’re in doubt.
Size and Comfort (2/5):
I’m a size 9.5 true to size but I do have wide feet. I’ve never owned a pair of Air Ships but given the relationship this shoe has to the Jordan 1 (watch video for details), I wanted to go true to size as that’s what I prefer with Jordan 1s. However, size 9.5 was sold out so I had to settle for size 10 and it does feel a little roomier that I’d like. Even if you have wide feet I do recommend you going true to size for this shoe.
To nobody’s surprise the comfort of the Air Ship is very similar to the Jordan 1, very flat and minimal cushioning and padding. Given this was the first actual shoe Michael Jordan wore as a member of Nike and he preferred flatter shoes so he could feel closer to the hardwood, this makes sense. But in terms of comfort as a casual shoe there’s a lot of shoes that surpass the Air Ships.
Versatility (4/5):
In images I always thought the Air Ships looked weird which was why I never owned one. However, in person this shoe is beautiful and is a very versatile silhouette. It’s not as iconic as the Jordan 1 but I could wear this easily. The simplicity of the colorway also lends itself to outstanding versatility, there’s not a lot of outfits that doesn’t go well with a predominantly summit white and red shoe.
Storytelling (3/5):
I love the story behind this shoe - Michael Jordan would wear his UNC college shorts under his Chicago Bulls uniform for every NBA game. That was the GOAT’s superstition and there are two ‘Every Game’ Air Ships, one that features the UNC blue and this colorway. Great story, cool inspiration, but unless you already knew that story or did your own research, you’d have no idea what ‘Every Game’ referred to. I would’ve preferred if Nike included some type of information behind the shoe including the significance of the Air Ship as part of the box or even a description on Nike.com.
I do appreciate them throwing in an OG booklet that explained Nike Air technology and cushioning.
Laces and Box:
This shoe comes with a set of extra summit white laces which actually looks pretty nice on this shoe. However, I still prefer the default red laces (90% of the time I probably prefer default laces). The box of the shoe is a pretty generic Nike box but has the same summit-white color to match the rest of the shoe.
